Lifts for power chairs, scooters, and wheelchairs.

There are a variety of lifts available for transporting power chairs, wheelchairs, and scooters. The type of vehicle lift a customer should utilize is dependent on several factors:

  • the year, make, and model of the vehicle.
  • the type of power chair, wheelchair, and/or scooter.
  • the nature of the individual's disability.

Size and shape of the vehicle, the vehicle's load capacity, and the size and weight of the power chair, scooter or wheelchair may also play a role in lift compatibility.

Many vehicles can accommodate a lift for a mobility device, but proceed with caution.  Before you spend any money you will want to confirm that the application will work!  Call us for an evaluation.  It's always free to talk to us and find out for sure.

Inside/Hoist Lifts

Inside lifts are ideal for mini vans, pickup trucks and SUVs.  They act similarly to a small crane.  They allow the power chair or scooter to be carried inside the vehicle.  Also, maximum cargo space is retained when the chair is not in the vehicle.

Outside Lifts/Wheelchair Carriers

As the name implies, hitch lifts are installed on the receiver hitch mounted on the rear of a vehicle.  An accessory that allows the lift to swing away from the rear hatch or tail gate is also available.  Hitch lifts can be installed on most vehicles however there are exceptions due to weight limitation.

Wheelchair carriers are installed on the receiver hitch mounted on the rear of the vehicle. Wheelchair carriers are designed for manual, collapsible wheelchairs and not for power chairs or scooters. Most vehicles can accommodate the weight of the wheelchair carrier and the wheelchair.

Safety Restraint Systems

Manual Tie-Down Systems

This system mounts in a track or base and is attached to the wheelchair or power chair at four points on the main frame of the chair.  This is the least expensive type of tie-down system, however it requires kneeling, bending, and hand strength to adjust the straps to secure the chair in place.

Retractable Tie-Down Systems

Similar to the manual tie-down, a retractable tie-down system mounts in a track or base and is attached to the wheelchair or power chair at four points on the main frame of the chair.  The straps are self retracting in a similar fashion to a seat belt. This application still requires kneeling and bending down but does not require manual adjustment of the straps.
